To ensure familiarity with pottery tools and settings, we require completion of at least one 5-week course at our studio before becoming a member. Alternatively, recent (within the past two years) experience in an open studio setting is accepted.
No, you do not have to be a member to attend any of our classes or workshops unless otherwise stated in the description.
We welcome beginners and offer several options to get started. If you've never tried pottery before and just want to dip your toes in, we recommend our one-time pottery class. It's a great way to see if pottery is something you enjoy. If you find that you love exploring pottery, we highly recommend our 5-week beginner hand-building pottery course for a more comprehensive introduction to the craft.
Clothing: Since pottery can be a bit messy, we suggest wearing comfy, casual clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty. Opt for closed-toe shoes to keep your feet safe from any stray objects. Tie back long hair and remove any dangling jewelry to keep the pottery magic undisturbed.
Materials: Feel free to bring your own apron to class if you have one. However, if you don't, we offer the option to purchase a cloth pottery apron. Apron will help protect your clothing from any clay/debris.
Nails: Trim your nails short for the best results in creating your pottery pieces. Long nails might get in the way during the hand-building or throwing process, affecting the final outcome.
Hydration: Pottery can be a physically demanding activity. Keep yourself hydrated, take breaks when needed, and bring a water bottle along to class.
Openness: It's essential to approach your pottery experience with an open mind & a willingness to learn. Pottery making can be a challenging process, and it's important to remember that making mistakes is a natural part of the learning experience. So, don't be afraid to take risks, ask questions, and experiment with new techniques. With time and practice, you'll develop your skills and create unique, beautiful pottery.
Hand-building and workshop class sizes vary depending on the type of class but are typically 8-10 participants. Our wheel-throwing classes are max out at 2 participants.
